Position

We are currently seeking an enthusiastic Parts Technology Engineer to join our Generator Engineering service team based in Rugby. The Generator Engineering Service team is responsible for engineering support for all planned activities associated with Outages, Parts, Repairs and upgrades in relation to generators globally and the support spans from tender to execution stages.

 

Within this role you will be responsible for supporting outages with outage planning by providing technical expertise in support of identification of parts for spare part enquiries both routine, outage or recommended spares lists etc. This could be technical input to spare part orders, ranging from Major capital spare parts to small flow components as well as parts documentation for ordering of major spare parts, products and services.  

 

The team, with its different domains of expertise, is deeply involved in the Rugby repair shop activities.  They support the repair shop with product and process qualifications, tooling design, implementation of new products and processes, manufacturing instructions and guidance in addition to providing direct technical support to ongoing.

 

Other Responsibilities will include:

  • Outage planning support with creation of outage documentation for unit outages on generator systems and to support technical queries from the site team during ongoing outages and providing repair solutions. Provide technical input and parts identification for spare part enquiries both routine, outage or recommended spares lists etc.
  • Specify quality requirements for all components.
  • Create and maintain Material Masters within our ERP System (PowerMax)
  • Receive and process PLM Production Orders for third party supply.
  • Identify and initiate technical documentation.
  • First point of contact within Engineering to address technical questions from suppliers of parts purchased through the third-party supply chain.
  • Support sales and operation organizations with Service opportunities from tender to execution.
  • Build good customer relations, especially with local customers to understand their future needs and expectations.
  • Support Sales organization with technical input and to participate in customer meetings to support new opportunities.
  • Collaborate effectively with partner organizations. (Field Service for outage services, RE Parts Management for parts delivery, PS Product Service for operational support, Repair Technology Centre of Excellence for repair services)
  • Consider EHS aspects in design & maintenance design and manufacturing.
  • Participate actively as member of the Core Service Generator Engineering team to the reflection and construction of the strategic initiatives of the Core Service Engineering function.

Profile

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or a suitable technician qualification.
  • Experience in an engineering environment demonstrating successful delivery of engineering work.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
  • Ability to use and configure IT tools for managing technical tasks, with ERP systems.
  • Fluent in English, both oral and in writing.

Desired Characteristics

  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Customer centric approach to work
  • Excellent organisational skills with strong attention to detail and a right first time mentality.
  • Broad knowledge of generators technology including operation, maintenance, and manufacturing would be advantageous but not essential
  • Knowledge of GEC, Alstom or GE Generator Fleet would be advantageous but not essential 
  • Problem solving skills / Ability to popularize complex technical issue
  • Ability to interface effectively with all levels of the organization and with external customers/suppliers.
