Position

We are currently seeking a Thermodynamics Engineer to join our growing team here at Rugby.  Within this role you will be a part of the performance team and will be responsible for the initial design of steam turbines and also predicting their performance. You will create a cycle models of the turbiens consistent with the requirements of the project and interface

 

Other Key responsibilities of the role

  • Design the turbine and optimize the water/steam cycle of the plant.
  • Create a cycle model and a model of the steam turbine consistent with the requirements of the project and the interfaces between the components of the plant.
  • Calculate guaranteed performance to be passed on to the customer, taking into account Arabelle Solutions’ feedback.
  • Calculate thermodynamic balances under nominal, partial or special conditions (malfunction of a component), as well as correction curves (influence of a deviation on an external parameter, for example the cooling water temperature) . These documents may be required for internal purposes or by the client.
  • Dialogue with the offers department to define these requirements and interfaces upstream of the projects.
  • Take into account cost and industrial standardization imperatives
  • Provide support to other GE business centers for decision support and project progress
  • Apply and enforce internal rules, standards, processes and tools of GE
  • Ensure the improvement and updating of the standards used for thermodynamic calculations.
  • Support the development process of new products and participate in the corresponding reviews (design reviews and gate reviews).

Profile

Qualifications and Experience

  • Mechanical Design Degree or Equivalent demonstrable experience
  • Demonstratable experience within a in a mechanical design office specifically applying the laws of thermodynamics (energy, petroleum, aeronautics, special machines) or experience in thermodynamic studies would also be experienced.
  • Experience in carrying out mechanical studies and calculations
  • The ability to use Catia V5 or similar design package would be beneficial but not essential
  • Fluent in English

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate in a variety of formats
